The “Experience Ag” Farm Tours organized by Penn State Extension and Cumberland County Ag Partners have been recognized by the National Association of County Agricultural Agents as a national finalist for this year’s Agricultural Awareness and Appreciation Award.

The award will be presented in July at the association’s annual meeting in Mobile, Ala.

The “Experience Ag” tours, held in October 2013, highlighted five farms in Cumberland County, showing the diversity and importance of agriculture in the region.

Forty-four percent of Cumberland County’s land area is farmland according to the 2012 Census of Agriculture. The 1,415 farms contributed more than $195 million worth of agricultural products, with an additional $6 million derived from farm-related activities, including custom work, agritourism, cooperative dividends and government insurance payments.
