Dairy Summit: Two One-Day Tracks Make One Day Attendance Manageable

At the 2013 Pennsylvania Dairy Summit, producers who can only manage to get off the farm for one day have the option of taking one of two “tracks,” designed to accommodate more producers’ needs.

Like last year, the “Dairy Management” Track will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, with breakouts focused on herd performance and management issues.

The morning general session will feature a showcase of dairy customers, with Scott Stewart of Stewart and Peterson providing a dairy industry outlook.

Dennis Erpelding from Elanco Animal Health will provide a “Look at Our Global Dairy Customers,” focusing on the emerging marketplace in China.

Brandon Solano will offer a customer showcase of Domino’s Pizza, which revitalized its brand by adding more cheese.

Wednesday’s one-day-only attendees are welcome to stay to attend the evening reception and silent auction with Steelers great Rocky Bleier at no extra cost, starting at 7 p.m.

The Dairy Track includes access to six different breakouts:

Workforce Compliance and Developing SOPs;

Using Genomics in a Commercial Dairy Herd;

Pursuing Higher Milk Quality Goals for Your Herd;

Complying with Increasing Environmental Regulations;

Early Bird Case Study: Knowing Your Numbers; and

Early Bird Case Study: Preparing for a Crisis.

New this year, the “Core Track” will run from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, with breakouts focused on issues related to future planning for the dairy industry.

A new Thursday morning breakfast session has been added, which will include Terri Turner from Kreider Farms, Lancaster, Pa., sharing what her farm learned from crisis situations.

The closing luncheon will feature three young producers providing a look at their dairy business, their future plans to grow and why they’re excited about the future of Pennsylvania’s dairy industry.

Held as part of the larger summit, each track will offer access to all of that day’s early morning sessions, breakouts, the opening session, luncheon and the dairy trade show.

Thursday’s Core Track also includes access to planning focused breakouts, including:

How to Make Group Calf Housing Work on Your Dairy;

Managing Feed Costs from the Field to the Feed Trough;

Identifying the Right Number of Replacements for Your Dairy;

Either a “One-On-One with Lloyd and Daphne Holterman of Rosy-Lane Holsteins” or a “Look at the Pa. Dairy Futures Analysis.”
