LEESPORT, Pa. — Kayci Johns was crowned the 2012-2013 Berks County dairy princess recently at the Berks County Agricultural Center in Leesport, Pa.

Kayci, the 17-year-old daughter of Mark and Debra Johns of Richland, Pa., has been serving the Berks County dairy industry for the past four years as a dairy ambassador promoting milk and the industry. Now she will be traveling all over Berks County as its dairy princess, promoting the benefits of drinking milk and eating dairy products.

Johns is no newcomer to the dairy industry. Her family is part of Stumpland Farm LLC in Bernville, Pa. Johns shows her Holstein cattle at the local fairs and the Pennsylvania Farm Show. She has also been a part of the Berks County Dairy Bowl since she was 8 and the Berks County Dairy Judging Team since she was 13.

For Johns’ skit, she came out as a Holstein heifer and talked to the audience about the different breeds of dairy cattle. She also talked about dairy products and the benefits they provide, such as nine essential nutrients.

During the pageant there was also a contest for the Berks County li’l miss title. The two young ladies both talked a little bit with the emcee and then they performed a song to promote the dairy industry. Brooke Bicksler sang a song, “Mary Had a Momma Cow,” and Alexa Davis sang, “I Love the Dairy Cow.”

Bicksler was then named Berks County li’l miss dairy princess. Brooke is the 5-year-old daughter of Jonathan and Tiffany Bicksler of Wheelcrest Partners farm, Richland, Pa. She attends Little Swatara Preschool and enjoys reading and riding bike. Brooke was crowned by the outgoing Li’l Miss Dairy Princess Maya Bicksler, Brooke’s older sister.

Many of the promotions done throughout the year need extra help, and the dairy ambassadors fill in to help do these promotions. They are Chelsea Gelsinger, Brittany Haag, Morgan Krick, Taylor Pool, Ashley Mohn, Kerissa Rohrbach, Jenna Sattazahn and Morgan Stump. This coming year there will be three new ambassadors joining the team to help promote. They are Madison Knepp, Ashley Seifert and Claire Connor.
