Lancaster Crops and Pesticides Seminar Set for Jan. 17

Penn State Extension in Lancaster County will hold its Crops and Pesticides Seminar, formerly known as Lancaster Crops Day, 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Farm & Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.

Now part of coordinated and expanded programming across the state, the seminar will feature twice as many topics to choose from.

Speakers will include Sjoerd Duiker, PSU soil scientist, speaking on vertical tillage; Doug Beegle, PSU soils specialist, speaking on getting the most out of your manure and making sense of nitrogen management; John Tooker, PSU entomologist, discussing seed technologies and you; and Greg Roth, PSU grain crop specialist, talking about management tactics for improving corn and soybean yields.

Numerous local agricultural companies will have displays to support the meeting and answer questions. The Lancaster Conservation District, Penn State Extension and NRCS will also be present and available to answer questions.

There will be an opportunity for two core and two category Pennsylvania pesticide recertification credits. Additionally, five certified crop adviser, one NM and one MHB points will be awarded for the meeting.

Cost is $15, which includes lunch. Reservations are appreciated but not required, and can be made by visiting and choosing “upcoming events” or by calling the Lancaster office at 717-394-6851.
