Pennsylvania Plowing Contest Set for April 18-20

3/16/2013 7:00 AM

The 2013 Pennsylvania State Plowing Contest will be held very early this year — April 18-20 on the Jay Wickard Farm, 1385 Leidigh Drive, near Boiling Springs in Cumberland County.

The change was made to free up state plowing officials to be able to attend the World Plowing Competition at Olds College in Alberta, Canada, on July 19-20, which fell in the local window when wheat comes off and beans are planted.

On Thursday, April 18, the plots for competition will be laid out and competitors can practice for the contest.

On Friday, April 19, the small plow competition will begin at 10 a.m. and the open contest will get under way at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, April 20, the antiques event will begin at 10 a.m., featuring only equipment made before 1951.

The Pennsylvania State Garden Tractor Plowing Contest will be held at The Little Guys show May 18 and 19 near Manchester, Pa.

For more information or directions for any of the events, call Bob Rentzel at 717-870-1044 or Bob Miller at 717-692-2443.
