To participate in this year’s Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s ChemSweep disposal of pesticides, pesticide applicators and dealers in eligible counties must complete a registration/inventory form, available on the program’s website or at county Extension offices, before March 31.
After submitting the inventory form, they will be contacted by a department representative to verify what they need to dispose of and facilitate collection of the waste pesticides between June and November.
The 21 counties eligible for ChemSweep in 2013 are Bedford, Columbia, Luzerne, Snyder, Berks, Cumberland, McKean, Somerset, Blair, Delaware, Montgomery, Sullivan, Bradford, Lackawanna, Montour, Union, Butler, Lawrence, Northumberland, Warren and York.
The program will not be offered again in these counties for several years.
The department will accept a maximum of 2,000 pounds of pesticide for disposal from any one participant annually. Participants wishing to dispose of more than 2,000 pounds may enroll and will be billed at department’s contract price for any amount over 2,000 pounds.
