MERCER, Pa. — Bright flowers decorated the room for the banquet preceding the annual Mercer County dairy princess pageant, May 30. The event was at the Leslie N. Firth Education Center, Mercer, Pa.

Pennsylvania alternate dairy princess and retiring Mercer County Dairy Princess Brooke George gave her farewell address, and then had the pleasure of crowning her sister, Samantha George, as the 2014-2015 Mercer County dairy princess. Samantha presented a skit, “The Facts Are Right,” and a speech encouraging everyone to share accurate dairy information with the public, which depends heavily on what they find on the Internet.

Prior to the crowning, participants in various age groups made presentations about the dairy industry.

The youngest, dairy darlings — McKenna Mase, daughter of Garrett and Maggie Mase; and Lydia Hill, daughter of Troy and Michelle Hill — answered questions posed to them by retired state alternate dairy princess and Mercer County Dairy Princess Elizabeth Weber.

The next group, dairy delights — Renee Ealy, daughter of Dan and Sherry Ealy; and Madalyn Fleet, daughter of Jerry and Deborah Fleet — presented skits.

The dairy maids, who will be assisting the dairy princess with dairy promotion activities throughout the year, presented speeches. They included Christa Ealy, daughter of Dan and Sherry Ealy; Rebekah Leise, daughter of Pete and the late Elaine Leise; Jocelyn Snyder, daughter of Todd and Paula Snyder; and Hannah Sturgin, daughter of Raymond and Paula Sturgin.

Dairy Ambassador Madison Stoner, daughter of Dan and Melissa Patterson, gave a PowerPoint presentation that compared the average dairy cow to a human. She will be participating in dairy promotion activities with the dairy princess.
