Feeder Cattle Auction Report Close for 12/17/2014
Receipts: 2000 Last Week: 2800 Year Ago: 1732
Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 500 lbs sold with a weak
to slightly lower undertone on a light test. Steer calves weighing 500-550 lbs
sold weak to 10.00 lower, with 600-650 lbs steers selling 10.00-15.00 lower,
650-800 lb steers traded mostly 20.00 lower. Heifer calves sold 10.00-15.00
lower, with 550-600 lb heifer calves trading 20.00-25.00 lower. Feeders over
800 lbs were not well tested, but sold with a lower undertone. There were a
lot of calves in Wednesday?s offering selling with moderate flesh to fleshy
conditions. There were many instances where the market was between 30.00-40.00
lower on fleshy or unweaned calves, feeder bulls, singles, odd packages and the
less attractive quality feeders. Five straight sessions of limit lower Feeder
Cattle contracts along with lower Live Cattle contacts and fat cattle markets
has the feeder cattle market in a very defensive mood as feeder cattle prices
are following the Feeder Board with sharp losses. Supply included 50 percent
steers, 12 percent bulls and 38 percent heifers. Near 60 percent of the supply
weighed over 600 lbs.
