Feeder Cattle Auction Report Mid-Session and Close for 04/23/2014
Receipts: 1537 Last Week: 1998 Year Ago: 1295
Compared to last week, a good test of new crop calves and a light test of
yearling feeders sold steady to 5.00 higher with the full advance placed on 6
weight steers and 5 weight heifers. Calf buyers continue active with little
regard for quality and the percentage of lightweights (under 500 lbs) remains
heavier than in recent memory. Most of the calves are leaving the local area
and offerings are sure to be tight until fall. Supply included 51 percent
steers, 37 percent heifers, and 12 percent feeder bulls. Around 31 percent of
the run weighed over 600 lbs.
