In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota: Thus far for Friday,
negotiated cash trade was mostly inactive on good demand in the Southern Plains
and Colorado, however not enough sales for an adequate market test. In the
Southern Plains last week, live sales traded at 124.00. Last week in Colorado,
live sales traded at 125.50. Trade was light to moderate on very good demand in
Nebraska and the Western Cornbelt. In Nebraska few early sales traded from
198.00-200.00 with a few early live sales at 126.00, however not enough sales
for an adequate market test. In Nebraska last week, live sales traded from
125.00-125.50 with dressed sales at 196.00. In the Western Cornbelt a few early
dressed sales traded from 198.00-200.00 however not enough sales for an adequate
market test. Last week in the Western Cornbelt, live sales traded at 124.00 with
dressed sales at 195.00.

demand. Slaughter cows sold 3.00-5.00 lower with light demand. Slaughter
bulls traded 2.00-3.00 lower. Cattle supplies included 299 slaughter steers;
81 heifers; 407 cows; 39 bulls; and 11 feeder calves. All prices per cwt.
Slaughter Steers: High Choice and Prime 3-4 1240-1585 lbs 124.00-127.50;
1600-1690 lbs 120.00-124.00. Choice 2-3 1190-1620 lbs 122.00-125.50. Select
2-3 1130-1430 lbs 117.00-120.00.

week ending 09-21-2013 was 1277 lbs with 39 percent heifers compared to 1276 lbs
and 37 percent heifers the previous week and 1284 lbs and 35 percent heifers the
same week a year ago.

higher, instances 8.00 higher; Feeder heifers 700-900 lbs 3.00-6.00 higher;
Trade very active and demand very good for true yearling cattle. Trade and
demand moderate for calves, as winter wheat planting and the harvest of row
crops are in full swing. Slaughter cows compared with last weeks major decline
weak to 1.00 lower. Slaughter bulls not enough for a market test but a lower
undertone noted. Receipts 91 percent 600 lbs and over, 6 percent 600 lbs and
under and 3 percent slaughter cows and bulls. Feeder supply 76 percent steers 24
percent heifers.
