Today, Pope Benedict XVI is saying farewell to the papacy. In the waning hours of his tenure, the pope made a stop at the papal summer residence, Castel Gandolfo, about an hour’s ride from Rome.
The residence has a working farm, including dairy cows, according to a posting from AP reporter Frances D'Emilio chronicling the Pope’s final day. He reports that coffee bars in the town has been known to serve milk from the 25-cow herd. As he says in the close of his piece, “Yes, it's already been said: 'Holy Cow.'” But to be more accurate, it should be “holy milk.”
