DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa officials plan to sponsor an artisan cheese-making workshop that focuses on food safety.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will help sponsor the event on Oct. 29. Participants have until Oct. 15 to register for the $49 one-day workshop.

The event will include the best practices to maintain, monitor and control cheese-making operations.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey says the workshop will provide important information for people who may enter the cheese industry.

Northey says there are 16 cheese plant operations currently in Iowa, and more are in development.
