In October, I visited the Damascus Community 4-H Club as Maryland Dairy Princess and did a true-or-false activity about 3-Every-Day of dairy with the members. We learned some fun facts about cows and farming and talked about getting at least three servings of dairy every day. They were excited to find out that agriculture is the No. 1 industry in Maryland and that it takes 12 pounds of milk to make one gallon of ice cream!

I also attended the Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative meeting, where many farming families came to see the work the cooperative has been doing to support them and their products. I found it very interesting to hear the farmers’ concerns and the questions they asked, because I learned more about the challenges they face and what they find important. I will use this information later when I represent their work and farms in other events and activities. I also had the opportunity to give a milk toast before the delicious dinner served at the volunteer fire department in New Midway.

Coming up, I’m looking forward to visiting some schools and stores to promote dairy and have a very exciting day coming up at the Damascus Heritage Museum on November 10. I’m keeping busy promoting and still learning more about the dairy industry every day!
