The time has come. My last full week serving as Maryland Dairy Princess has arrived.
Though retiring my crown and my frayed, slightly stained sash will be a sad moment, I can honestly say I’m looking forward to seeing the look of disbelieving excitement on the face of the next princess as I crown her, the same look I’m sure I wore last July.
I also appreciate the abundance of opportunities and memorable moments I was able to experience during my reign. From starry-eyed girls gazing in amazement at my crown and asking me if I knew Cinderella to hard-working farmers asking me about my latest promotions, even to enthusiastic parents incredulously learning in a game of dairy trivia that a cow could weigh as much as their second-grade child’s entire soccer team combined, I can’t imagine ever forgetting these incredible experiences.
I have been finishing off my reign strong with visits to several local stores and restaurants, including Bob Evans, Applebee’s, Martin’s, Chick-fil-A and Bruster’s. I actually was a little starstruck upon meeting the Chick-fil-A cow mascot; of course, I asked to take a picture with her (I assume it’s a her)!
I had a lot of fun helping bottle-feed calves and sample ice cream at South Mountain Creamery and plan to visit Rocky Point Creamery. I also have a few other events planned, if only so I can keep from saying that my reign is already over.
This year has been a truly memorable and amazing experience, and I thank everyone who shared it with me.
