Open Class Dairy Winners Selected at Maryland State Fair

TIMONIUM, Md. — After two days of seven open class dairy shows at the Maryland State Fair, the senior and junior supreme champions were selected during ceremonies held in the Cow Palace Friday, Aug. 30.

The supreme senior champion went to Stoney Point Excitation Jamie, the Jersey exhibited by Julie Mayer of Taneytown, Md. The animal was recently sold to River Valley Jerseys in Tremont, Ill. Junior supreme honors went to Claircrest Sid Checkers, the Holstein exhibited by Ehrhardt Farms and Joel Phoenix and Gene Iager of Fulton, Md.

Topping the open Ayrshire show as senior and grand champion was Palmyra Poker LH Rosy-ET, a 4-year-old cow exhibited by Palmyra Farm of Hagerstown, Md. Jeffrey Hubbard of Thurmont, Md., exhibited the reserve senior and reserve grand champion, senior 3-year-old Spring Vale Burdt Applefritter. The junior champion of the show was the fall heifer calf exhibited by Palmyra Farm, Palmyra Dreamer LH Rosy-ET. Reserve junior champion honors went to Alexis Winkler of Woodbine, Md., with Maple Dell Poker Daisy-ET, a winter yearling. The premier breeder and exhibitor of the open Ayrshire show was Palmyra Farm.

Senior and grand champion of the open Brown Swiss show was Rad-Ical Rock It, the junior 2-year-old exhibited by Cassidy Schirmer of Galena, Md. Reserve senior and reserve grand champion honors went to Kayla Lenhart with Long View Denver Rianna, a senior 2-year-old.

Noah Iager of Boonsboro, Md., won the junior champion rosette with his winter heifer calf, Dublin Hills Shaeley-ET. Joshua Hubbard of Thurmont, Md., exhibited the reserve junior champion, summer yearling Spring Vale Summer.

Beth Anne Clark of New Paris, Pa., exhibited the Guernsey open show senior and grand champion, Pine Grove Q Royal Bella, a senior 2-year-old. Clark also exhibited the reserve senior and reserve grand champion, Misty Meadows Pistol Jisele, a 5-year-old, as well as the junior champion, summer yearling Misty Meadows Levi Sienna-ET. Elsie Wolfe of Quarryville, Pa., took home the reserve junior champion rosette for her spring yearling heifer, Hollow View Kojack Dolly. Jo-Ann Chason of Bel Air, Md., won the best bred and owned Maryland cow award.

In the open Holstein show, Chip Savage of Union Bridge, Md., exhibited the senior and grand champion, 4-year-old Savage-Leigh Gold Loha-ET. She was also the best Maryland bred and owned cow. Reserve senior and reserve grand champion honors went to Richard Schwartzbeck of Union Bridge, Md., with Cityview Goldwyn Ace, a junior 3-year-old. Claircrest Sid Checkers, a fall heifer calf exhibited by Gene Iager, Joel Phoenix and Ehrhardt Farms, was the junior champion. The winter heifer calf, Duckett Acme Tamora-ET, exhibited by Chris and Jen Hill, Chad Umbel, Frank Connelly and Tim Merwarth, was named reserve junior champion. The best bred and owned junior exhibit of the show was Savage-Leigh Staci-ET, exhibited by Cindee Savage and Kendall Welsh. My Lady’s Manor Farm of Monkton was honored with the premier breeder and exhibitor banners.

Julie Mayer exhibited the senior and grand champion Jersey, Stoney Point Excitation Jamie, a 6-year-old cow. Reserve senior and reserve grand champion honors went to Elliotts Cosmo Action-ET, a senior 2-year-old exhibited by Ehrhardt Farms and Gene Iager. The best Maryland bred and owned cow was SV Heaths Giller June, a junior 3-year-old exhibited by Wayne and Allen Stiles of Westminster, Md. Winter yearling M-Signature Tequila ClaraMarie, exhibited by Ehrhardt Farms and Gene Iager, was the junior champion of the show. The reserve junior champion rosette was awarded to South Mountain Voltage Shine, a winter heifer calf exhibited by Ernest Kueffner of Boonsboro, Md. Wayne and Allen Stiles of Spring Valley Farm were named premier breeder and exhibitor.

Senior and grand champion of the open Milking Shorthorn show was the senior 2-year-old exhibited by Aryn Arbaugh of Union Bridge, Md., Arb Flo Spr Lyman Gee Wiz. Reserve senior and reserve grand champion honors went to Teresa Hahn of Sabillasville, Md., for Windswpt Farm Sam April, a junior 2-year-old. Katie Albaugh of Walkersville, Md., exhibited both the junior and reserve junior champion. Daysland Acres Prince Dior, a summer yearling, was junior champion, and Daysland Acres Snoppy Pizi, a winter calf, was reserve junior champion.

Winning senior and grand champion in the open Red and White Holstein show was Harvue Contender Britta-Red, a junior 3-year-old exhibited by Erhardt Farms and Gene Iager. Milksource Destry Sidney, a junior 2-year-old also exhibited by Gene Iager and Ehrhardt Farms, was named reserve senior and reserve grand champion. Renely Darwynn Red Bull-Red, a winter calf exhibited by Ehrhardt Farms and Gene Iager, took junior champion honors. Ehrhardt Farms and Gene Iager also exhibited the reserve junior champion, Sunny-Hillvue Brandy-Red, a fall calf.
