Farm Show Judging School Offers Adult, Youth Divisions

1/4/2014 7:00 AM

The Pennsylvania Purebred Dairy Cattle Association Judging School will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

Participants will judge at least six breeds of cattle, and adults attending the school may be eligible to become included on the association’s official list of judges, which is distributed to Extension offices and local fairs.

The school official will be Mary Creek from Palmyra Farm in Maryland. She has extensive judging experience at the local, state and international levels.

The Penn State Dairy Science Club will offer youths 18 or younger the opportunity to participate in a junior division. Instead of judging classes of 10 animals, they will judge four animals per class.

The cost is $5 per youth, and prizes will be offered to the five highest placing youths. Both adults and youths can register at 8:30 a.m. the day of the school in the Large Arena of the Farm Show Complex.

For more information, contact Ken Raney at 814-234-0364. Youth division questions should be directed to Dale Olver at 814-865-7638.
