MILLHEIM, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), will hold a field day on poultry processing 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Lady Bug Farm in Punxsutawney, Pa.

In Hands-on Poultry Processing: Health, Nutrition & Regulations,” participants will watch a processing demonstration with Mike and Christie Badger of the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association. They will then practice processing birds themselves using the Badgers’ mobile processing unit, an open trailer that contains all the equipment necessary to process poultry from start to finish.

Jeff Mattocks of The Fertrell Co. and veterinarian Susan Beal will talk about broiler management, including housing options, pasturing, nutrition and animal health.

Brian Moyer of Penn State Extension will lead a discussion on how to qualify for USDA inspection exemptions.
