LANCASTER, Pa. — Penn State Extension will hold a practical one-day workshop on soil basics at two Lancaster County locations in early December.

Both workshops will run 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with the same sessions at both locations.

The first will be Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Hoffman Building, Solanco Fairgrounds, 172 S. Lime St., Quarryville. The second will be Friday Dec. 7, at Gideon King Hardware, 5465 Elam Road, Kinzer.

The sessions will include in-depth information on how the quality and nutrient availability of different soils affect the growth and productivity of crops, as well as a look at options to increase soil health and plant productivity. Hands-on lab work will demonstrate how soil properties function.

To register, call the Lancaster Extension office at 717-394-6851. Cost is $10, which includes lunch and materials. A limited number of walk-ins will be available at each location, but participants are asked to call ahead to provide a count for lunch and materials.
