Beef Industry Meeting Set for Dec. 10

11/17/2012 7:00 AM

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Center for Beef Excellence will hold a Beef Industry Council meeting 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Samuel E. Hayes Jr. Livestock Evaluation Center, 1494 W. Pine Grove Road, Furnace, Pa.

This is a new date for the meeting after inclement weather on the original date prompted a postponement.

This meeting will include an update by Dr. Craig Shultz on the USDA proposal on animal disease traceability and the impact it will have on Pennsylvania cattle producers when it becomes effective.

Karen Powell from the USDA Risk Management Agency will discuss the livestock gross margin and livestock risk protection insurance programs, and the benefits producers receive from them nationally.

These risk management tools are currently unavailable to producers in Pennsylvania, but producers in other states are using this protection and producers in the western part of the state have asked to have these programs included in Pennsylvania.
