HURON, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota State Fair Foundation has started a campaign to raise $4 million to build a new 4-H exhibit hall on the fairgrounds in Huron.

The campaign will seek donations over the next three years to replace the aging Clover Hall, which has been used since the 1950s for 4-H exhibits and competitions. Officials say nearly $1.2 million has already been raised.

The new hall will feature multiple classrooms, a large kitchen for 4-H special foods competitions, year-round concessions and a performance stage. It also will provide an additional exhibit hall in Huron for community events held throughout the year, with rental revenue providing more money to the State Fair.

Officials say 9,000 young South Dakotans are members of 4-H.
