Boys and Their Toys…

Life in the Farm Lane

There is something about big equipment that can completely fascinate my boys. Mind you, we have plenty of our own tractors and a skid steer at the farm, but take them to a dealership where there are shiny, new tractors for an open house and it's their own version of a farming playground.
Recently, one of the local tractor dealerships held its annual open house, offering a free meal, a look at the latest equipment and a tour of its latest shop expansion. After chowing down on hot dogs and chocolate milk, the boys begged to check out the tractors and all-terrain vehicles. Dad was not far behind. The boys piled into the cab of a big tractor to discover a “jump seat” of sort for a second rider. Perfect, they said because then they could ride along with dad. They pushed the buttons and pretended to be driving through the fields.
It’s something of a phenomena, give kids a chance to check out equipment, and they are off. They boys made instant friends with others pint-size “drivers” about the tractor having fun pretending to be “farmers.” It’s like giving them full-scale tractor toys to play with and plenty of photo ops for parents.
We do enjoy taking photos of the boys on the tractors. Also, it gives my husband a chance to check out a tractor to see what the latest technology is and what options are available on newer tractors. Will we buy it, highly unlikely, but it is fun to dream.
