In the mid 70’s Bob Gitt purchased a, Astro daughter at a sale in New Jersey and brought her home to their farm in Adams County, PA. The Astro daughter had a Fond Matt and she was sold to Jan Jurbala. Gitt’s daughter Chrissy and her husband Steve Wood decided they weren’t finished with that cow family and they purchased the Fond Matt’s fancy Elevation daughter, Penn-Gate Elevation Flashie.

From Flashie, the Wood’s bred Starbuck Finesse and the foundation of a legacy began to take shape.

After taking a tour to the Royal Fair in Canada and eyeing up beautiful Sky Chief heifers in the show ring, Steve and Chrissy came home and purchased some semen. Sky Chief semen soon became scarce, but not before they had a pregnancy with Starbuck Finesse.

Penn-Gate Skychief Finesse was the most influential of the four exceptional Excellent Sky Chief X Starbuck Finesse daughters; her final score was Excellent 95, 3E with a 97 point mammary score.

According to Holstein USA, the Dam of Merit has 21 Excellent daughters and numerous Excellent granddaughters. Finesse’s milk production and components only added to her outstanding frame, rib and udder. She produced a lifetime record of 2245days, 161,510 pounds of milk, 7,311 pounds of fat, and 5,285 pounds of protein

Aside from building their own 50-cow dairy on her foundation, the Wood’s were able to market Finesse’s embryo’s globally to Ireland, England, Germany and Switzerland.
