Jonathan Sheppard's Cubist and Brian Crowley won the $75,000 Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Filly & Mare Stakes Thursday, the last steeplechase of the Saratoga Race Course summer meet.

Cubist, who is owned, bred and trained by the Chester County, Pa.-based Sheppard, beat the favorite, Kate Dalton's Cat Feathers, by a neck.

Steeplechase racing will have one final fling this year at Saratoga on Saturday, Sept. 15 in the inaugural Steeplechase Festival.
