BRIDGEVILLE, Del. — The Apple Scrapple Festival kicked off its 21st year, as winners in each of three categories were announced. Entries came from throughout Delmarva, representing towns such as Lewes, Del., Gumboro, Del., Tilghman Island, Md., and Dover, Del.
Entries were placed in one of three categories: teen, ages 10-17; adult; and professional. In each of those categories, three winners were possible, earning cash prizes and bragging rights as an Apple Scrapple Baking Contest Winner for the year to follow.
In the Teen Category, Garrett Briggs, age 10, took first place with his Ricotta Apple Pie.
In the Professional Category, first place went to the Tilghman Island County Store, Tilghman, Md., for its Apple Walnut Muffins. Second place went to Pastry Chef Andrew Hooven of Abbotts Grill, Milford, Del., for his Apple Cranberry Cobbler.
In the Adult Category, first place was awarded to Lia Workman, Millsboro, Del., for her Apple Cinnamon Cheesecake. Mom Mom's Apple Dumplings was submitted by Jean Stokesbury of Seaford, Del., and captured second place. Third Place went to Terri Carr, Lewes, Del., who used her aunt's Apple Pound Cake recipe to secure a winning prize.
