Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 05/18/2015
Actual Receipts: 8,713 Last Monday: 4,036 Year Ago Monday: 11,696
***No sale Monday May 25th in Observance of Memorial Day***
Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers traded steady to 3.00
higher. Not enough comparable sales on steer or heifer calves for a market
trend. Quality was mostly plain to average, but buyer demand remains good.
Producers continue to have a hard time getting into pastures to gather and ship
cattle following the last few week's severe storms and heavy rains. More rain
is expected towards the middle and end of the week. According to the US Drought
Monitor, Oklahoma and Texas no longer have any areas reported in the Exceptional
drought category. This is the first time that either state has not had some
portion of the state in the most severe drought category of Exceptional since
July of 2012. Supply included 78 percent over 600 lbs and 37 percent heifers.
