ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The spring whaling and seal seasons have started.
Alaska Public Radio Network reports (http://is.gd/FQ4OiC) that whaling crews on St. Lawrence Island have already landed three bowheads.
Grace Levette with the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission says the take is one for Savoonga and two for Gambell.
In southwest Alaska, the seal hunt also has started. Hunters from the Cu'pik community of Chevak are hauling their boats to the coast, looking for harbor, spotted and beaded seals.
