Demand for cream from ice cream manufacturers is easing. Last week demand
was called "strong" but by this week it is slowing and expected to be
"moderate" for the next few weeks. Butter demand is flat and inventories
are called "burdensome" at some production facilities. Some butter
manufacturers continue to churn part day schedules and sell cream into spot
or contract sales. Current bulk butter prices for this week are reported
even to 2 cents over the market on the CME Group with various time frames
and averages used. Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted
requests for export assistance from to sell 1.682 million pounds (763 metric
tons) of butter to customers in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North
Africa. The product will be delivered August 2013 through January 2014.
Year-to-date, CWT has assisted member cooperatives in selling 63.946 million
pounds of butter, 44,092 pounds of anhydrous milk fat and 218,258 pounds of
whole milk powder.
