Heavy rain followed by heavy snow last week left a picturesque winter scene along the banks of Back Creek in Pulaski County, Va. The precipitation will help short-term drought conditions, said Peter Corrigan of the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, but normal winter moisture is probably needed the rest of the winter season to make up deep groundwater deficits.
