Although DST has been with us for a century, there are a number of misconceptions as to how and why it was started. Originally proposed as an energy saver during World War 1, the nation’s farmers actually spoke out strongly against adopting it in 1919 as it made it more difficult for them to get both their milk and produce to markets with the later morning sunlight start. However, DST was actually promoted by chambers of commerce as helping farmers, which is what most of us were taught in elementary school.
