UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — David A. Mortensen, a professor of weed ecology in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences, was among 15 faculty members honored this week as distinguished faculty by the university’s Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.

Mortensen’s work explores the interplay between the ecology of agricultural fields, field edges and forest fragments with a goal of integrating weed management to reduce reliance on herbicides.

A summary of his work was recently published in a paper that appeared in the journal BioScience.

He received his undergraduate degree in botany from Drew University, a master’s in botony from Duke University and a Ph.D. in crop science from North Carolina State University.
