• 5 pounds brown sugar
  • 8 pounds whole-wheat flour
  • 1-1/4 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 3/4 pound butter (melted)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons maple flavor
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 2-1/2 quarts buttermilk (or milk)


Put dry ingredients in bowl, except baking soda (add soda to milk before adding to dry ingredients). Lastly, add butter and flavorings. Mix well. Spread in pans. Bake at 350 F until golden brown. Cut in strips and dry until hard; then grind.

Enjoy this with fresh milk.
