Ingredients and Directions

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream butter and sugar till fluffy; beat in sour cream. Add egg and vanilla; mix thoroughly. By hand, stir in dry ingredients, just till combined. Spread mixture in bottom of greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Bake 25-30 minutes. For fluffy frosting:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar

Stir together flour and milk; cook over medium heat till thick, stirring constantly. Cool. Beat butter and shortening 4-5 minutes; add sugar and vanilla. Beat another 4 minutes; add cooled milk mixture. Continue beating another 4-5 minutes.

This is an excellent frosting that doesn’t need confectioners’ sugar and not overly sweet either.

Thanks to all the dairy farmers for their hard work. May you all have a blessed summer.
