Macy Walason of Green Slopes Farm, Imler, Pennsylvania, was chosen as the 2021-2022 Pennsylvania state Guernsey queen at the 89th annual awards banquet of the Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders Association on April 23.

Walason was judged on her knowledge of the Guernsey breed and the dairy industry, speaking ability, activities and awards in the Junior Guernsey association as well as her FFA and 4-H activities and awards, community service hours, personality and poise. She also had to present a six- to eight-minute speech about the Guernsey breed and answer an impromptu question at the banquet.

Jocelyn McMurray of Eighty Four also competed in the queen contest.

Walason is the daughter of Jeff and Angelique Walason. She is the grandaughter of Galen and the late Sonja McDonald of Imler, and Peg and the late Dick Walason of Williamsburg.

She will represent Pennsylvania at the 2021 National Guernsey Queen Contest to be held in conjunction with the National Guernsey Convention in Scottsdale, Pennsylvania, in July. She will also represent Pennsylvania in the National Outstanding Youth contest and the senior division of the folding display contest.

The National Guernsey Convention is held every summer in a different state, highlighting Guernsey farms and youths across the United States. This year Pennsylvania will be the host state.
