The USDA recently released statistics showing that Pennsylvania jumped to No. 2 in the nation in sales of certified organic commodities in 2016, with $659.6 million. That’s almost a doubling of organic sales in just one year.

The 2017 Growing Pennsylvania’s Organic Farms Conference will support this trend with presentations by successful organic farmers and speakers with accomplished organic research programs.

Topics will range from grass dairy, poultry, juice and wine grapes, blueberries, vegetables and small grains to pest and weed control.

Featured speakers will include Heather Darby, an agronomist with the University of Vermont Extension, and Ronald J. Hoover, coordinator of the On-Farm Research Program at Penn State.

The keynote speaker will be Jennifer Tucker, associate deputy administrator of the National Organic Program.

The conference will be Dec. 12-13 at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel, Harrisburg. To register, visit https://gpofconference.org/.
