Lancaster Weekly Cattle Summary for week ending Friday, October 14, 2016.

CATTLE: 1899; Last week 3134; Last year 2375. CALVES: 1354; Last week 1753; Last year 1576.

This week in Lancaster County, Slaughter steers struggled to hold their ground even as Western trade dropped below the 1.00/cwt mark. They were quoted as mostly steady. Slaughter Holsteins sold steady to 1.00 lower for the week on another very light test. Slaughter heifers were not tested this this week. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 4.00 lower for the week. Slaughter bulls sold mixed from 5.00 lower to 2.00 higher. Demand was moderate. There is a Feeder Cattle sale in Vintage this week. Holstein bull calves sold 10.00-20.00 higher for the week. Holstein heifer calves sold 20.00-30.00 lower on another very light supply. Dairy replacement fresh cows sold steady to 100.00 lower. No trend for Replacement Jersey fresh cows due to lack of comparable receipts last week. Replacement Holstein bred cows not tested. No trend for Jersey bred cows due to lack of comparable receipts last week. Replacement bred and open heifers sold mostly steady to 50.00 lower on a light test. Not enough Holstein bulls for a market test. Demand was moderate for all classes. All cattle are sold per cwt with the exception of dairy replacement cattle which are sold by the head.

SLAUGHTER HOLSTEINS: HIGH CHOICE/PRIME 3-4: 1500-1550 lbs few 96.00-97.00; CHOICE 2-3: 1350-1650 lbs 88.00-93.00; SELECT 1-2: 1200-1700 lbs 83.00-86.00.
