Lancaster Weekly Cattle Summary for week ending Friday, September 23, 2016.

CATTLE: 2321; Last week 2400; Last year 3625. CALVES: 1767; Last week  1663; Last year 1886.

This week in Lancaster County, things are getting back to normal if there is such a thing in the livestock business. The Eid al-Adha Holiday is over and the ethnic buyers are starting to filter back into the market. This didn't make any big changes in the market on Monday but contributed to the upswing on Thursday. Slaughter steers sold mixed again this week but the opposite of last week. This week they sold from 2.00 lower to 5.00 higher. Slaughter Holsteins sold 3.00-4.00 higher for the week again on a very light test. Slaughter heifers were steady this week compared to a very light test last week. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 lower for the week. Slaughter bulls sold 2.00-4.00 higher for the week. Demand was good. There is a Feeder Cattle sale in Vintage on Friday night. Holstein bull calves sold 10.00-50.00 lower for the week. Holstein heifer calves sold mixed from 10.00 lower to 100.00 higher on a very light supply. Dairy replacement fresh cows sold mostly 100.00-200.00 lower on a light test. Cow quality not as good as previous week. Replacement bred heifers sold mostly steady on a very light test. Open heifers sold steady to weak on a very light test. Holstein bulls steady on a very light test. Demand was moderate for all classes.
