Lancaster Weekly Cattle Summary for week ending Friday, September 30, 2016.

CATTLE: 2289; Last week 2321; Last year 3072. CALVES: 1123; Last week  1767; Last year 1782.

This week in Lancaster County, corn harvest was in full swing and came to a halt as much needed rain fell across the county Wednesday night and into Thursday. Slaughter steers took a big hit this week dropping as much as 7.00/cwt by week's end. This week they quoted from steady to 7.00 lower. Slaughter Holsteins sold 5.00-7.00 lower for the week on another very light test. Slaughter heifers were 2.00-5.00 lower this week on another very light test. Slaughter cows sold mostly 2.00-5.00 lower for the week. Slaughter bulls sold mixed from 5.00 lower to 2.00 higher as the ethnic buyers were active early in the week. Demand was moderate. There is not a Feeder Cattle sale to report this week. Holstein bull calves sold mixed from 10.00 lower to 10.00 higher for the week. Holstein heifer calves sold sharply higher on another very light supply. Holstein bulls sold steady compared to a light test. Demand was moderate for all classes. All cattle are sold per cwt.
