EPHRATA, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man is admitting he mistreated a horse by beating it last week after it collapsed along a highway while pulling a load of watermelons.
LNP reported Marvin Martin Sensenig, 20, of Ephrata pleaded guilty Monday to two summary counts of animal cruelty and paid more than $700 in fines.
The horse had to be euthanized the next day, and a motorist's video of the beating caused an uproar on social media.
One of the charges is for kicking and punching the horse, the other is for having it pull a farm wagon that was too heavy for it.
Online court records don't list a lawyer for Sensenig, and his home phone listing couldn't be located.
