Farmers are now eligible for a key government program being used to ease the economic pain of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ag producers were not initially eligible for the Small Business Administration's Economic Injury Disaster Loan and EIDL Advance programs.
That has now changed, and with additional funding from Congress, the Small Business Administration reopened the application portal to ag enterprises only starting May 4. The site had not been accepting requests since April 15.
Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue praised the move, saying, “America’s farmers, ranchers, and producers need the same help that other American businesses need during this unprecedented time."
Demand for stimulus funding has been high, and Zach Myers, risk education manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence, encouraged interested producers to act quickly.
