USDA on Wednesday announced the establishment of the $400 million Dairy Donation Program.
The program, created in the December 2020 pandemic stimulus, reimburses some expenses related to donating dairy products to nonprofit feeding organizations.
Dairy farmers, cooperatives and processors that purchase fresh milk or bulk dairy products to process into retail-packaged dairy products are eligible to participate.
Costs reimbursed through the program include the cost of milk used to make the donated eligible dairy product and some of the manufacturing and transportation costs.
Applicants may seek reimbursement for eligible dairy products donated since Jan. 1, 2020.
